EU-India Dialogue on Green Hydrogen Cooperation at the European Hydrogen Week 2024
Together with GH2 India, the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), Hydrogen Europe, H2Global, H2Uppp and the International PtX Hub, the Indo-German Energy Forum Support Office (IGEF-SO) organised the EU-India Dialogue on Green Hydrogen Cooperation on the sidelines of European Hydrogen Week 2024 in Brussels on 19 November 2024.
Welcome remarks were given by Ms. Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy Director-General, Directorate General for Energy, European Commission, Dr. Andreas Nicolin, Deputy Director General, Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Mr. Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO, Hydrogen Europe emphasised the importance of simplifying regulatory frameworks to enhance Europe's competitiveness in the global market. Addressing challenges such as zoning and regulatory complexities promptly will be crucial to maintaining Europe’s leadership, especially in comparison to rapidly advancing regions like Japan and Korea. He urged for swift action, ideally before 2028, to ensure Europe remains a frontrunner in the global hydrogen economy. Additionally, he advocated for immediate policy measures and a renewed industrial partnership to bolster collaboration between the EU and India.
After the welcome remarks, Shri Abhay Bakre, Mission Director, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Dr. Christian Storost, Head of Division, Funding Instruments and Hydrogen Initiatives, Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), Dr. Ruud Kempener, Team Lead, European Commission, Dr. Susana Moreira, Executive Director and Co-Chair of the Board of the H2Global Foundation and Mr. Gautam Reddy, COO, am green – Greenko discussed the topic of green hydrogen project developments in India with participation of European stakeholders and focus on promising offtake agreements, effective funding instruments and certification of sustainability criteria. More than 70 people attended the event and discussed with the panellists.

On 19 November 2024, at European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, H2Global Foundation and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) formalised a partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU was signed by Shri Sanjay Sharma, Director (Solar), SECI, and Dr. Susana Moreira, Executive Director, H2Global, in the presence of Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, Secretary (MNRE), Shri Abhay Bakre, Mission Director-NGHM (MNRE), Dr Prasad Chapekar, Deputy Secretary (MNRE) and Shri K R Jyothilal, ACS Kerala. At the European Hydrogen Week 2024, Hydrogen Europe and GH2 India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration and mutual support, strengthening knowledge exchange to promote the advancement of the hydrogen sector across Europe and India. More information can be found here.
