The Subgroup III on 'Energy Efficiency' focuses on energy efficiency measures to achieve the energy goals of Germany and India

Activities

Apart from regular reporting and knowledge exchange about the Indian Perform Achieve Trade (PAT) Scheme and the German National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (NAPE), the following three priority issues were identified through the strategic review process:

Achievement of Energy Goals in Germany and India through Energy Efficiency
District Cooling
Demand Side Management (shifting of electricity demand in different sectors)

1. Achievement of Energy Goals in Germany and India through Energy Efficiency

Short Information: The Indian PAT Scheme and the activities of EESL are real success stories and are showcasing the high potential of energy efficiency measures for different sectors like industry and the public sector. An overview of the full potential of sector wise energy efficiency measures shall give orientation to this subgroup.

Proposed planned activities ahead:
A sector wise study should analyze and show case the full potential of energy efficiency measures for India.

2. District Cooling

Short Information: IGEF Support Office in cooperation with ICLEI had organized a workshop on “District Cooling” with experts from Germany and India. This energy issue is seen as an area of high demand and interest for both countries. A proposal for Indo-German Energy Cooperation has been presented to the “Indo-German Working Group on Climate” led by German Ministry of Environment (BMUB) and (MOEFCC) financed by Government of Germany through the International Climate Initiative. Implementing partner of this project will be MoP through BEE.

Proposed planned activities ahead:
Prior to the implementation of this project, a demand analysis for cooling by sector shall be undertaken by IGEF to identify focus areas and guide the upcoming project.

3. Demand Side Management (shifting of electricity demand in different sectors)

Short Information: As the adaptation to fluctuating renewable energy power is one of the major topics for the current Indo-German Dialogue within all subgroups of the FORUM, the above topic was identified as future relevant energy issue within the dialogue in the IGEF.

Proposed planned activities ahead:
An analysis of demand side management potential especially in industries shall be undertaken.
